St Thomas More Primary School

It began with the simple idea of having an ABC book drop in a local family friendly coffee shop and ended with local primary school St Thomas More receiving a brand new library proudly created and stocked by Acorn Book Club.
Laura Collins, the Headteacher at the school, saw the bookcases in the coffee shop and was keen to find out more about ABC and whether they could get help with a space that has long been neglected. Following a tour around the school the ABC team could see the potential of the space and were delighted to offer to help.
Over the space of the next 2 months the room was gutted, redecorated, redesigned and fully stocked with books to appeal to children from nursery all the way through to year 6. ABC worked to the brief provided by the children and the ‘St Thomas More Park Library’ was born with a trees and nature theme. ABC even commissioned a renowned movie and TV set builder to create a bespoke archway to separate the early years and KS1 library from the older years.
The community pulled together on this project with book donations from members of the general public coming in via the coffee shop and the local branch of Acorn ending up on the shelves of the new library.
ABC is proud to have been able to provide the children at this lovely underfunded primary school with an inspiring vibrant space in which they can immerse themselves in reading.
