A Busy Quarter 1

It's been a really busy couple of months for ABC Book Club. See below a sneak peek into what we’ve been up to since our last post.

Fundraising for Marjorie McClure

We were contacted by local Special Educational Needs school Marjorie McClure who were in desperate need of some resources they could use in their library to support children who find it difficult to access books in the traditional way. Even though it's outside of our usual remit, the team embarked on a massive fundraising campaign to raise the money to purchase 8 Tonie Boxes - audio storytelling devices for the school. We had some amazing support from Bromley High Girls School and Water Babies, both of whom made financial contributions to the drive and who will present the Tonie Boxes to the school in the near future. What a great team effort!

If you would like to help support other SEN schools in need of such resources visit our fundraising page - every penny will go towards helping children in need.

Bromley Library Lates

ABC were invited to attend a Library Lates event in Bromley and take part in this exciting local evening festival of fun, food and music. Encouraging the use of the library and allowing local business and charities to raise their profile and network, it was a really successful evening. It was topped off with a silent disco, DJ'd by former local and Big Brother winner Kate Lawler who took an ABC bag and promised to pass on all her pre-loved books to the charity.

We'll call that a win!

Duke of Edinburgh volunteers

We've had 2 young volunteers over the past couple of months helping us out as part of their charity work for their Duke of Edinburgh bronze award. So they could get some experience of project work, we set them the challenge of building 10 'story sacks' which are bags containing a book and all the props a teacher might need to make the tale come to life.

The two girls from Langley Park Secondary School really got involved and have nearly completed the entire process. They chose, sourced, purchased and designed each sack - which will be given to local schools to help either in the SEN division or in Early Years. The volunteers have worked really hard and we hope they've enjoyed themselves - all that left to do is make the donation to the school - we're all looking forward to that part!

Thanks for reading, for regular updates on the charity make sure you check back again soon.
