The Belham Primary School

ABC has been in touch with The Belham Primary School in the heart of Peckham Rye for over a year – and they were determined to transform their former yoga studio into a whole school library that every child can use during lesson time and lunchtimes.

The ceremonial ribbon was cut by the Chair of the FOB (the Friends of Belham parent and carers group) who together not only fundraised tirelessly for the project, they even painted and decorated the walls of the new library in preparation for ABC to transform it. ABC had the full support of the teacher and premises staff at the school, in particular from the Year 2 teacher Ms Gardner who managed the entire project on behalf of the school and helped ABC make the library become a reality.

The result is a bright and vibrant space packed with exciting books for the children to read, comfy seating spaces, a tree bookcase, honeycomb shaped shelves with bee fairy lights and every teacher’s favourite: the story telling chair. The children were wowed as they saw the library for the first time, but the excitement in the first few minutes was soon overtaken by the books they selected to settle down and read. Seeing them absorbed in the books, comics and magazines chosen for the school brought home to everyone the impact the library will make on the pupils lives and their ability to enjoy reading for pleasure.

We were delighted to collaborate with this forward-thinking primary school and are sure they will love their library for years to come!
