St Saviour's School

Following an Ofsted inspection which prescribed a focus on improving the reading abilities of students, St Saviour’s School in Lewisham wanted to redevelop under-utilised spaces within the school to make a real difference to the children’s learning and school life. However, as a result of underfunding, this was not a possibility within their existing budget.

In what was ultimately ABC Books Club’s inaugural project, the charity offered to step in and provide the school with a brand new library facility and an additional workspace to allow the teachers to take on the Ofsted recommendations.

During the summer holidays, in a real-life ‘DIY SOS’, our team set to work converting the uninspiring room in the upper floor of the school, into a bright and vibrant space to spark the pupils passion for reading. We reached out to the public through our sponsors and supporters, and were able to collect thousands of high-quality pre-loved books to fill a brilliant new library.

The library was opened in time for the brand new school year by the Mayor of Lewisham Damien Egan in front of a host of invited community guests and of course the delighted children, teaching staff and Governors.
